Russell Ingall’s Supercheap Holden will race under the number 226 in Townsville next weekend to commemorate the veteran’s record breaking 226th event start.
Ingall equaled John Bowe’s previous record of Australian Touring Car Championship/V8 Supercars Championship starts last time out at Hidden Valley, leaving him on course to reset the benchmark in Townsville.
The 2013 season is Ingall’s 18th and last as a full-time driver in the series, although he is expected to chalk up further starts in future endurance races.
“It’s an absolute honour to finally make it to the most capped driver… I’m pretty proud of still being around the sport for that long and still enjoying it,” said the 2005 champion.
“It’s great that V8 Supercars allow us to put the 226 on the side of the car (to mark the occasion).”
The Walkinshaw Racing-prepared Holden usually carries the #66 – a plate Ingall previously used in his karting days.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've always liked Russell, his driving and attitude...here's a vid from 2012 with some of the "Enforcers" highlights.
Cheers
